Hi.

Welcome to my blog. I write blurbs about what amuses me and funny things going on in my life. I post lots of photos too.

North Loup Valley

North Loup Valley

The North Loup Valley is a beautiful fall destination. I spent a couple days (October 14th weekend) roaming the area based out of an AirBNB I got in the village of North Loup. I went through Seward, York, Hamilton, Hall, Howard, Greeley, Valley, and Garfield counties. Here are a bunch of photos from this getaway I had...

It was quite a foggy day when I left Saturday morning. It made for some nice, moody photos. This photo was somewhere north of Wood River on Highway 11 (the Loup Rivers Scenic Byway).

I pulled over to get out and capture this scene. This was near the intersection of Highways 11 and 58.

There are lots of wall murals in small towns across Nebraska. This one may be my favorite as it seems to tell a story of their heritage in a nice, artistic way.

Another wall mural - The Danish Capital of Nebraska. This reminds me of a conversation I had with my brother-in-law yesterday....why is it that people seem more threatened by today's immigrants holding onto their heritage?

There were a few interesting buildings in Dannebrog that are now falling into decay and dilapidation. Sometimes you make photos into black and white because the conditions sucked or they were uninteresting color photos. I liked the moodiness of this building and hoped it would translate in black and white.

This photo doesn't capture the nice view, but believe me it was nice to eat lunch there and soak in the beauty surrounding the North Loup River.

For a little while the clouds and fog thickened. I enjoyed taking moody photos. (looking toward Highway 11 and the North Loup River)

Fence posts, prairie grass, and rolling hills. Nebraska is beautiful. Haters don't know beauty I guess. Haters gonna hate. Hate on, Haters.

Hello, AirBNB house I stayed at in the village of North Loup. Felt like staying at a stereotypical grandma and grandpa's house...warm, inviting, and relaxing.

Here's the meat market. Cetak's is a big name for meats in Nebraska. (of course I had to send some jr. high humor texts to some friends of mine)

A gem of a find in the Sandhills...a craft brewery. I talked with one of the owners. Good people and good beer there! (And they knew all about Fat Head's. My Fat Head's hoodie sparked a conversation)

A beer wasn't going to cut it to get me through the rest of the day. So I stopped at Y'all Come Back Saloon & Grill. I had a tasty philly-style sandwich and watched a bit of the Husker game. Ohio State clobbered us. But that had no impact on an awesome experience in the North Loup Valley!

The next days started out in the village of North Loup at the Broken Egg Cafe. Sausage, eggs, and hash browns covered in gravy! Wow! Filling and delicious! I talked with many locals here and got many tips on things to photograph in the area. The people in the North Loup Valley are the nicest I've experienced in Nebraska. I guess their landscape, and food, gives them a lot to be happy about!

One of the tips I got was this abandoned railroad bridge north of town. I got a lot of shots of this. Sorry, there's a lot to scroll through.

I had to get rid of lots of lewd graffiti on this bridge. Their youth have quite a sexual vocabulary with which they'd weaponized against a few women unfortunately.

The next primary thing I planned, and the last, was to stop at Fort Hartsuff SHP. Here's the kitchen at the fort.
